Reminiscing: Childhood

Reminiscing.
Nostalgia.
Memories.
They all mean the same thing (more or less).
Different people have different interpretations on these words, whether it be a recollection of their happy past, or a sad chapter that has passed.

Before I start, here is a little quiz for you to see if you can dig through that memory bank of yours and pull out where this screenshot is from:

If you really don't remember...maybe you were not from that decade or you've just simply never seen it before. I'll reveal the answer later on through this post. Whether or not this means anything to you, it surely means a lot to me and bring back a lot of nostalgic feelings from...over a decade ago.

Here's a brief recount on yesterday's activities.

  1. School stuff
  2. Other stuff I have to do
  3. Barney...?

Whoa...wait...what was that...? Barney...?
I realize there are many controversies on this big friendly purple dinosaur, who happens to be a tyrannosaurus rex (but kids don't know that) but needless to say, it was still a huge part of my childhood! For some reason, I found myself thinking about the different episodes that I've watched when I was a kid, from Safety Rules to Rhyme Time Rhythms. And then I went on to the extent of Googling the episode names, the characters, etc. and even watching them on YouTube.

Watching those videos brought back fun, childish memories.

Now that I'm slightly older, being a teenager and surrounded by the impurity of the world and all that drama and stress...I think I can speak on behalf of most of the teenagers out there that we wish we could go back to being a child.

Children these days, even those my age, wish to be older.
They want to mature.
They want to be treated like an adult.
They want freedom.
They want to express.

I realize that I am probably preaching to the wrong audience, but don't rush to grow up - you will eventually. But being a child, you can never truly go back to that stage of purity and innocence.
Therefore, treasure every moment, take every chance, make this stage in your life a time to try new things before you regret it. You've probably heard this many, many, many times but it is most definitely accurate and true (as are all those sayings).

I really wish that I could write things with deeper meaning, but I am just a mere teenage student whose only goal is to somewhat get my point and thoughts across. Perhaps writing like this will help me one day? I don't know. It seems to help me very much to do this. I'm starting to ramble on again, aren't I?

To wrap things up: don't be afraid to become a 'child' again by playing with old toys, reading old books, watching television shows and movies that you had as a kid - these types of memories are the ones that will be with you forever and can provide you with a source of happiness when you have one of those moody and emotional days. Let that inner child of you out!

Oh, and if you haven't noticed the connection already, the picture is from Barney's opening sequence of the Second Generation :)
